What isn’t Zooey good at?

The more I think about Zooey Deschanel, the more I wonder if there is anything she can’t do. It’s not enough that she is an extremely attractive person with a great personality, she’s also a tremendous actress who has entertained us all for years now in shows like New Girl and 500 Days of Summer. Just to name two of her best roles (okay so she’s great in all of them). Recently I was visiting a friend of mine in Germany though, and the subject happen to turn to Zooey.

We were watching her on the TV at the time, and he commented: “She would make a great poker player.” It struck me as quite a random thing to say. Sure, it’s not unusual for actors in Hollywood, or even the German film industry to play a little poker on the side. Hollywood is notorious for celebrity house poker tournaments in Beverley Hills and beyond, and it wouldn’t surprise me if she had somehow been invited, or at least given poker a go on websites like PartyPoker.com, whilst in Canada or any other country that allows online gambling.

Anyway I asked him what he meant, and he said: “All she would have to do is pull a sad face and I’d give her all my money.”

It’s a fair point. She does have one of them faces you’d struggle to say no to. Not just because she is extremely beautiful, but also because her big doe eyes could charm the shell off a tortoise. And being an actor she certainly has the qualities to be a successful opponent at the Texas Hold’em high stakes tables. She’d have to learn the ropes and get in some practise first, but you see one of the key factors which sets the winners apart from the losers is their ability to bluff. Actors can pretend to be frustrated by the hand they’ve been dealt, or even smug about it if they want to dupe their competition into believing they have a better or worse hand of cards.

Zooey could certainly rest assured that if she ever entered the casinos in Munich;, she’d certainly beat one person without even raising an eyebrow. My friend Dieter.
